The relevant government commission of the Russian Federation approved a bill that will give Vladimir Putin the right to involve mobilization reservists not only during war or mobilization but also in peacetime. RBC studied the project, in which the Ministry of Defense proposes to call reservists for additional assemblies by decision of the president. They can be announced in the event of military conflicts and counter-terrorism operations.
According to the current law, reservists can be called for assemblies once a year. At the same time, they cannot be involved in combat tasks in peacetime.
The head of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrey Kartapolov, explained to journalists that the authors of the bill deliberately used broad formulations for attracting reservists so as not to adopt additional laws for each specific case. "This, for example, concerns the point about the use of reservists outside of Russia, as the Sumy or Kharkiv region, where hostilities are also taking place, are also de jure outside the country," said the deputy.
According to the publication, such "special military assemblies", which will be announced by the president, may last no more than two months. Reservists participating in them will have to receive additional payments.
