In St. Petersburg, a 12-year-old schoolgirl was detained last evening for setting fire to a cell tower on Parashyutnaya Street in the Primorsky district, according to the regional police department.
As reported by one of the eyewitnesses to Fontanka, an elderly passerby who was walking a dog noticed the girl and saw her set fire to the cell tower.
At the police station, the girl explained that she found an offer for "easy money" in one of the messengers and decided to complete a simple task for which she was promised 300,000 rubles. She wanted to use this money to buy a new "iPhone".
No one was injured as a result of the incident, but the girl's parents are expected to compensate for the material damage caused.
"Due to the age of the arsonist, the materials will be transferred to the investigative authorities to decide on the initiation of a criminal case. Previously, similar acts were classified by the investigative authorities as terrorism," the police reported. However, prosecution under the article on terrorism (as well as arson) is possible from the age of 14, and under the article on sabotage — from the age of 16.
