On Tuesday, he was supposed to present the formed government in parliament, but faced criticism and the threat of a vote of no confidence

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu resigned, and President Emmanuel Macron accepted it, French media report citing the Élysée Palace.

The 39-year-old Lecornu was appointed as prime minister on September 9, in the outgoing government of François Bayrou, Lecornu held the position of Minister of Defense. Thus, he served as head of government for less than a month. This is the shortest term of premiership in the country's recent history, notes Le Figaro. In the last two years, France has had five prime ministers.

On Tuesday, Lecornu was supposed to officially present the formed government in the French parliament, but faced criticism from the opposition regarding the composition of the new cabinet of ministers. Several opposition parties stated that they would not support Lecornu's cabinet and would initiate a vote of no confidence, as effectively only the sign changed — only a third of the ministers in the government were replaced.
