According to data from the German Economic Institute, in the first quarter of 2025 alone, the European Union imported goods from Russia worth 8.7 billion euros. For comparison: in 2021, during the same period, imports reached 30.6 billion, and in 2022 — a record 63 billion due to a surge in oil and gas prices.
As BILD writes, the main buyers from Russia are Hungary and Slovakia, as well as partially France and Spain. Most of the money still goes to gas: it was purchased for 4.4 billion euros, oil — for 1.4 billion. However, this is almost 93% less than before the war. Among the demanded items are fertilizers (550 million euros), steel and iron (726 million), as well as nickel (261 million).
Machines and medicines are primarily supplied to Russia. In the first quarter of 2025, the total volume amounted to 7.9 billion euros — almost three times less than before the war.
In 2024, Germany imported goods from Russia worth 1.8 billion euros and sold goods worth 7.6 billion euros. As the publication notes, recent surveys in Germany show that the majority of citizens support a complete suspension of purchases of Russian energy resources.
