The Chairman of the HQCJ, Nikolai Timoshin, noted before the vote that the Prosecutor General «effectively leads the supervisory authority, characterized by responsibility and diligence».

The decision was made unanimously. The consideration of Krasnov's candidacy took five minutes, he was the only candidate.

Earlier, Krasnov applied for the position of head of the Supreme Court. The competition for this post was announced on July 29 following the death of former head Irina Podnosova.

Now Vladimir Putin must submit a proposal for the appointment of Igor Krasnov to the Federation Council. This body formally appoints the Chairman of the Supreme Court.

The last time a Prosecutor General became Chairman of the Supreme Court was in 1948, when Anatoly Volin took the position.
