The head of FSB Directorate «K» Ivan Tkachev has been appointed head of the Department of Military Counterintelligence (DMCI). This was reported to «Important Stories» by two former intelligence officers not connected to each other.
According to them, the appointment decree has already been signed, but it will be officially announced at the next FSB board meeting.
Sources from «Important Stories» say that although formally this is a career advancement (moving from a lieutenant general to a colonel general position), Tkachev loses influence as he leaves the most «lucrative» directorate of the FSB. Directorate «K» is responsible for all banks, tax authorities, customs, the presidential administration, and the government.
The DMCI, in turn, oversees the Ministry of Defense, which in wartime conditions makes this position «perilous». The previous head of the DMCI, Nikolai Yuryev, left his post last December of his own accord.
* Recognized in Russia as a «foreign agent» and «undesirable» organization.
