A teenager from Novosibirsk will stand trial for burning a religious book, the press service of the Novosibirsk region courts reported.
According to the investigation, the 17-year-old boy recorded and published a video in one of the Telegram channels, in which he speaks on camera and holds the «New Testament» in his hands. «Using crude obscene language, he cynically and offensively expressed himself regarding this book, as well as those who profess Christianity and Judaism», — the message states. After this, the minor set the book on fire, threw it on the ground, and kicked it.
The investigation reported that an unlimited number of people could view the video, and a criminal case was initiated against the young man under the article on insulting the feelings of believers. Previously, students from Stavropol who burned a Bible in a grill were sent to a colony for two years.
In February 2024, 20-year-old Nikita Zhuravel was sentenced to 3.5 years in a colony for burning the Quran. The case from Volgograd was transferred to Chechnya, where the defendant was also transferred. During the investigation, a video appeared in Ramzan Kadyrov's Telegram channel showing his son Adam Kadyrov beating the convicted Zhuravel.
In November last year, Zhuravel received a second sentence, with the Volgograd Regional Court sentencing him to 13 and a half years in a colony on charges of treason.
