Now President Emmanuel Macron will be forced to look for a fourth prime minister in 12 months

The majority of deputies of the French National Assembly voted for a vote of no confidence in the country's government after the keynote speech of Prime Minister François Bayrou, reports Reuters.

A total of 583 deputies participated in the vote, 364 of them expressed no confidence, 25 abstained, 194 expressed confidence in the cabinet. This means the immediate resignation of Bayrou himself and the government, which worked for less than nine months.

As notes Le Figaro, this is the first case in the history of modern France when the head of government is removed from office during a vote of confidence.

Bayrou announced his intention to hold a vote of confidence back in August: against the backdrop of a growing national debt, which by the end of the first quarter already amounted to 114% of GDP, the prime minister proposed a tough austerity plan amounting to 44 billion euros, including cuts in social spending and the cancellation of public holidays. He presented this step as the only way to stop the "quiet and invisible bleeding" that threatens France with a loss of freedom and a large number of foreign loans.

As claims Associated Press, the opposition to President Emmanuel Macron took advantage of the moment to weaken the government, and the vote turned into a referendum on unpopular austerity and trust in the president. Now Macron will be forced to look for a fourth prime minister in 12 months.
