Former chairman of the Pestrechinsky District Court of Tatarstan, Irek Nabiev, who was on the international wanted list for almost three years, returned to Kazan from Germany and was detained, writes "Business Online" citing sources. The publication claims that he was placed in Kazan's detention center No. 2, and Nabiev is cooperating with the investigation.
There are different versions of what prompted the judge to return, ranging from financial problems to receiving guarantees in exchange for a pre-trial agreement and testimony.
In the winter of 2022, the Higher Qualification Board of Judges of Russia, at the request of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin, agreed to initiate criminal cases against Nabiev under eight articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation: fraud, bribery, kidnapping, illegal production, sale or shipment of drugs, extortion, incitement to abuse of official powers, forgery of documents, and money laundering.
Nabiev was the chairman of the Mendeleevsky court from 2007 to 2019, then became the chairman of the Pestrechinsky district court, and retired in 2020. In December 2022, he was arrested in absentia.
In early 2022, Nabiev's former driver, Alexey Kaimanov, was sentenced to six and a half years in prison for kidnapping a businessman from Chelny, whose company was transferred to another person. Later, the court sentenced three more defendants in the case, including the retired judge's nephew, Denis Nabiev, reported "Business Online." Nabiev's lawyer claimed that he became a victim of slander by the former driver, whom the judge fired for inappropriate behavior.
In the summer of 2020, Irek Nabiev's son, Ramis Nabiev, who was an assistant prosecutor of the Moskovsky district of Kazan, was sentenced to four years in a penal colony under the article on fraud. According to the investigation, he, along with accomplices, received two million rubles allegedly for transfer as a bribe for a favorable decision in a criminal case.
