The accused claims that he was a victim of fraudsters, so after the arson he went to the police himself

In the Central District Military Court, the state prosecutor requested 15 years of strict regime for 48-year-old Yekaterinburg resident Alexey Belozersky, accused of terrorism due to three Molotov cocktails thrown at the military enlistment office building, reports a correspondent of «Mediazona»* from the courtroom.

According to the prosecution, on the evening of August 22, 2023, Belozersky attempted to set fire to the military enlistment office of the Sverdlovsk region on Lenin Avenue by throwing two bottles with incendiary mixture at the main entrance of the building, and the third one at a window. The building was not damaged, and the fire was quickly extinguished by the enlistment office staff, who were helped by passersby.

The damage from the arson was estimated at 2.7 thousand rubles — this is the cost of the burnt window. At the same time, the prosecutor claimed that during the arson, the Yekaterinburg resident shouted «Glory to „Kraken“!», and before that, he spoke on the phone with a representative of the eponymous intelligence-diversionary unit of the GUR.

Belozersky insists that he was forced to do this by fraudsters. After the arson, he changed clothes and went to work at the management company, where he was an energy worker. After consulting with the director, he went to the police himself. From there, he was taken by FSB officers and held «with them» all night, the Yekaterinburg resident told the court.

As Belozersky recounted, from August 19, unknown individuals, introducing themselves as Belov and Makhov, called him in the messenger and eventually convinced him to take several loans at Alfa-Bank, Asia-Pacific Bank, VTB, Gazprombank, Sber, and the «Sinara» bank. As noted in court by the prosecutor, bank employees warned the man about the danger of fraud, but Belozersky assured them that he needed money to buy a car.

Later, the fraudsters convinced Belozersky that the lost money could be recovered by setting fire to the military enlistment office.
