The German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful shared his expectations regarding future security guarantees for Ukraine in the event of reaching a peace agreement. As DW writes, in his opinion, the necessary guarantees should «practically approach what NATO membership means». Without this condition, Ukraine cannot be asked to concede its territories, stated the head of the German Foreign Ministry.
«We cannot demand that Ukraine seriously consider territorial concessions if it does not receive at least real security guarantees from as many countries as possible, ensuring that at least the remaining (territories) will be safe», emphasized Wadeful.
In his opinion, this will not pose a threat to Russia, but could become the basis for lasting peace.
Wadeful noted that the list of security guarantor countries needs to be expanded beyond Europe, particularly emphasizing the importance of involving the USA, adding that already about 30 countries, including Japan, have expressed their readiness to support Ukraine.
The German Foreign Minister believes that a peace treaty with Russia should not become a «dictatorial peace» to the detriment of Ukraine. Additionally, the minister called on Putin to end the aggressive war against Ukraine and sit at the negotiating table. «Otherwise, he should expect our resolute resistance on Ukraine's side», assured the German official.
