Italian police detained a Ukrainian citizen, Sergey K., in the province of Rimini on the night of August 21, suspected of involvement in the sabotage of the 'Nord Stream-1' and 'Nord Stream-2' gas pipelines, writes Der Spiegel, citing the German prosecutor's office.
The man was detained on board the yacht 'Andromeda', which, according to the investigation, Ukrainian divers used in September 2022 to approach the pipelines for sabotage. According to the investigation, he was not among the divers but played more of a coordination role.
The detainee is expected to be extradited to Germany.
The yacht 'Andromeda' was rented through front persons and with fake documents from a German company, the prosecutor's office claims.
Earlier, the media reported that the attacks on the gas pipelines in September 2022 were carried out by Ukrainian special forces who planted explosives.
