Investigative actions at the museum are being conducted "in the case of terrorism of foreign agent Marat Gelman," reported the pro-Kremlin channel REN TV, noting that Gelman is wanted in connection with the criminal case. Meanwhile, on social media, PERMM stated that the museum is closed "for technical reasons."
Law enforcement officers also conducted a search at the home of the museum director Nailya Allahverdiyeva and her "commercial partners."
"Interesting what they are looking for. I have been dismissed for 11 years," wrote Marat Gelman on the social network X. The gallerist was the director of the Perm State Museum of Contemporary Art PERMM from 2008 to 2013.
Since 2014, Gelman has been living in Montenegro, where he opened an art residency. In Russia, in December 2021, he was included in the register of "foreign agents," and on November 14, 2024, he was added to the register of "terrorists and extremists."
