The Central District Military Court sentenced 30-year-old history teacher of School No. 84 in Yekaterinburg, Alexey Pokazanyev*, to three years in a settlement colony in a case of 'justifying terrorism', the court's press service reported. He was also banned from engaging in teaching activities for two years. Judge Alexander Kargin needed only one session to sentence the teacher.
According to the prosecution, during a lesson for ninth-grade students, Pokazanyev, commenting on the explosion of the Crimean Bridge, 'made a statement justifying an attempt on the life of the President of the Russian Federation to cease his state activities'. The teacher was also accused of 'not supporting the actions of the Russian authorities in their domestic and foreign policy, including disagreeing with the conduct of the special military operation (SMO)'.
In July 2024, Rosfinmonitoring added Pokazanyev to the register of 'extremists and terrorists'.
In 2023, a military court sentenced history teacher from Komi, Nikita Tushkanov*, to five and a half years in a colony in a case regarding comments about the explosion on the Crimean Bridge. The teacher was found guilty of 'justifying terrorism' on the internet and 'discrediting' the army. The court also reviewed Tushkanov's case in one day.
* Included in the list of 'terrorists and extremists'.
