Russian military dropped a 250-kilogram aerial bomb on a rural school in the Belgorod region

2024.11.20

According to ASTRA* sources, the bomb pierced the roof and is now located in one of the classrooms on the third floor

The Belgorod channel «Ashes», citing local residents and the publication ASTRA, which referred to a source in emergency services, reported that on November 19 around six in the morning, a Russian plane dropped a FAB-250 on a school in the village of Bykovka in the Belgorod region. According to sources, the bomb pierced the roof and is now located in one of the classrooms on the third floor.

Visually, the school shows no damage from the street. However, a crack appeared on one of the building's walls as a result of the bomb's fall — this is visible in the photos obtained by «Ashes».

ASTRA also reports that another FAB-250 fell on November 15, one and a half kilometers from the village of Bely Kolodez in the Shebekinsky district. No casualties or destruction were reported.

According to ASTRA, there have been 150 cases of Russian aerial bombs falling in Russia and the occupied territories in 2024 alone. The most frequently fallen are FAB-250 and FAB-500. Usually, they do not explode upon unintended descent — the shells are destroyed by bomb disposal experts afterward.

«Ashes» writes that to bomb targets in Ukraine without exposing planes to anti-aircraft fire, explosive aerial bombs have been equipped with special «wings» — planning and correction modules that allow bombs dropped over Belgorod to glide to targets in Ukraine. However, this system is imperfect and frequent malfunctions occur.
