They will be directed to help Russian political prisoners

Politician Vladimir Kara-Murza donated the monetary part of the Pulitzer Prize to the fund aiding families of political prisoners. «It is a great honor to receive the Pulitzer Prize 2024 for my columns in the «Washington Post», written from prison. I dedicate it to all journalists imprisoned in Russia, — and the monetary part will be donated to the 'October 30' Foundation, which helps families of Russian political prisoners», — he wrote in his Telegram channel.

The 'October 30' Foundation was decided to be created by Kara-Murza's associates on the day of the politician's sentencing in April last year, as October 30 is the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repressions in Russia.

Vladimir Kara-Murza was detained in April 2022. Initially, he was charged with spreading «fakes» about the Russian army, then the investigation added charges of «treason» and participation in the activities of an «undesirable» organization.

In April 2023, Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in a high-security colony. He served his term in a colony in the Omsk region. In July 2024, he was transferred to a hospital due to deteriorating health.

On August 1, Vladimir Kara-Murza was released as a result of an exchange of Russian political prisoners for Russian criminals convicted in Western countries.
