In the Kemerovo region, a soldier robbed a house and got away with a fine less than the value of the stolen goods

2024.10.22

The maximum penalty for the charge against him is six years of imprisonment, but the court even reduced the imposed fine

The Tomsk garrison court found serviceman Alexander Biryukov guilty of burglary with breaking and entering, the court's press service reported.

On June 19, 2024, he broke into the house of a resident of the city of Berezovsky in the Kemerovo region and stole an induction stove and a mobile phone Xiaomi Redmi.

The court sentenced the soldier to a fine of 150,000 rubles. However, since Biryukov was detained after the theft and was in custody for three months, until October 16, 2024, the court reduced the fine to 80,000 rubles, which is less than the value of what Biryukov stole.

It is impossible to find out what influenced such a lenient court decision, as court websites have been down for a week following a hacker attack. The article under which the soldier was tried also provides for imprisonment for up to six years.
